James Beard Foundation's Climate Change for Restaurant Survival campaign
Karma Lee is one of the first seven chefs selected by the James Beard Foundation to launch its historic Chefs Lead for Climate Action initiative inside the White House. Representing independent restaurateurs, she joined Michelin-starred chefs and women-owned organic farmers in meetings with the Biden Administration and USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack to advocate for climate-forward policy, small business resilience, and support for organic, small-scale farming.
Following the White House summit, Karma visited the USDA, where Secretary Vilsack emphasized the agency’s commitment to tackling climate challenges, investing in science and research, and building wealth that stays in rural communities — a mission deeply aligned with Karma’s values of sustainability, equity, and community impact.
